DANCE IN IT-BHU
IT-BHU can boast of really good dancers if it ever learns to value them. But certain 18 century people present here title up dancers as people who don't study and waste their time in a useless activity. Other part of people see western or filmy dance as deterioration of Indian Culture.
But IT's trail blazers have always proved their opponents wrong with outstanding grades, selections in CAT, GMAT and GRE and putting dream jobs in their pockets. Secondly Dance is always considered a degraded co-curricular activity by most students as well as teachers in front of Sports and Technical or Literary activities. Sports is encouraged by faculty members, while people are always pulling legs of dancers who manage to prepare and perform despite lack of basic facilities as a nice place for dance practice and activities of dance clubs.
Dance has all the elements of a sport: physical endurance, coordination, practice, discipline, and competition apart from the intellectual and artistic side it involves. Fact is well confirmed after many of dance forms like figure skating (ice dancing) and gymnastics included in Olympics and Common Wealth Games. Competitive ballroom dancing is considered to be "one of the most graceful sports" by International Dance Sport Federation. Dancing not only involves basic talent to dance but also reflects innovation, hard work, commitment, team work, and management skills required in a good executives by any firm. It's high time that IT-BHU learns to give there valuable dancers required respect, encouragement and facilities.
